No.More.Excuses. JJ Bailey (2008-06-23)
Well, needless to say, it's been a while since my last post - I've recieved enough not so subtle reminders from friends that Spooky 'Cross was last October. The past eight or nine months has been a great time of reflection for me: what I want to do with coaching, am I still motivated to lay it all out there as a highly competitive athlete, and more generally - what makes me happy. One upside is that I finally feel like I'm becoming better at #1, had a fairly serious sit-down with myself and re-focus on #2 (albeit with plenty of catch-up to do at the time of this entry), and some new ideas on #3.... more »

Spooky 'Cross 2007: A New Classic! JJ Bailey (2007-10-15)
With the mud only now completely removed from every inch of my body and gear, I can sit back and reflect on a great weekend of racing at my team's first foray into race promoting: Spooky 'Cross. To be perfectly honest, I had no idea how addicting this sport would become last summer as closed down a successful triathlon season and was looking for something new to keep me fit over the fall. I heard all the rave reports from from bike racing compadres that it was the most pure, sweet hell on two wheels that you'll every experience. And while I got my feet wet in 2006, I'm all-in from here on out. ... more »

...and we're back JJ Bailey (2007-10-01)
It's been far too long since my last post here and many probably won't even see this until next spring when the tri season comes around again. So much has happened in these last few months, I'm not sure where to begin. To start off, I want to give major kudos to all my coached athletes of Zoom Performance for outstanding performances and a summer full of PR's. The new coaching endeavor (along with co-owners Jenny Weber-Hanken and Matt Zepeda) has been going phenomenally and we're experiencing all the growth headaches a new business has as it expands. Tonight as I write this post, though, we've set met a new milestone by getting our website on-line: www.GetZoomPerformance.com. Browse. Read. Know.... more »

Hy-Vee & Nationals Recap JJ Bailey (2007-07-05)
As I think back to my last two races - the Hy-Vee Triathlon and USAT National Championships, I am keenly aware of the ups and downs that sport can bring. Whether it's form or a need for a break from the action to regroup, sometimes you just need to recharge the systems. After a record-breaking performance at IronMan Florida 70.3 in late May, I've struggled to find that high-end turbo gear needed to WIN races at the level. While top-10 overall (6th at Hy-Vee and 10th at Nationals) are solid performances I would have killed for a few years ago, it's time to shuffle the deck. ... more »

You Like Apples? JJ Bailey (2007-05-24)
THIS was the way the season was supposed to start - a great result from the culmination of time spent staring at my TV through the long, cold, Iowa winter. Watching Tour de France DVD's can only take you so far before you begin questioning your sanity. With my DNF in Arizona a month ago, to say I had a chip on my shoulder would be putting it lightly. Patience, intensity training, and the magic mojo of staying with the 2006 US and World Amateur Champion, Marc Bonnet-Eymard and his amazing wife Amy down in Winter Garden did the trick.... more »
